How Microimpuls and Center implemented IPTV/OTT platform in TATTECOM

TATTELECOM has long used a third-party solution for IPTV, but at some point faced the following problems: expensive maintenance and lack of platform development. The company began to lose to competitors in the functionality and quality of services provided. It was decided to replace the technology platform.

We were looking for an actively developing solution with support for a large number of consoles, SMART TV, mobile platforms, Android consoles. The solution was to support the existing fleet of subscriber devices and seamlessly transfer subscribers to the new platform.

Microimpuls and Center specialists were tasked with providing and implementing the best solution for the interactive television service.

PJSC Tattelecom - the largest universal operator with headquarters in Kazan, providing services of fixed telephony, Internet access by various technologies, digital and cable television, mobile communication. In total, the services of PJSC Tattelecom are used by over 1.8 million subscribers.

Decision

• Together with the marketing department of TATTELECOM, a new subscriber interface was developed.
• Integration of the Microimpuls platform with the existing set-top box fleet was carried out without involving the resources of the console manufacturer (the consoles were discontinued).
• A mechanism for the gradual migration of subscribers from the old platform to the new one has been developed.
• The CAS system has been implemented and integrated with further support.
• Using HEVC technology, HD content can be streamed where it has not been possible for ten years.
• New Infomir and RoTeK consoles have been introduced, as well as applications for Smart TV and mobile devices.
• A project plan and a fault-tolerant cluster scheme have been developed. The equipment was configured and the infrastructure with N+N redundancy and load balancing was launched. Technical documentation and user instructions have been developed.
• An accident-free migration of 150,000 subscribers was carried out with the help of specially developed tools for phased updating.
• Integration with TATTELECOM billing was carried out. An additional module to the platform has been developed for simultaneous interaction with old and new IPTV platforms and billing.
• A telemetry system has been developed and implemented – the collection of statistics of viewed content to determine subscriber preferences.

After a detailed study of the technical solutions offered on the market and competitive selection among suppliers, it was decided to opt for the Microimpuls Smarty platform. The main selection criteria were: the universality of the platform, the presence of a large park of integrated consoles, the ability to connect to the platform of third-party applications.
I want to note the high degree of fault tolerance and scalability of the system. With a heavy load (more than 150,000 subscribers), there were no failures, all components of the system work normally, using the available server capacities optimally.
